Citycon’s Environmental Responsibility
Operating a business that promotes sustainable development is a strategic choice for Citycon. In Åkersberga Centrum, we strive to reduce both energy and water consumption in many different ways. We actively monitor the property’s energy and water consumption, and if we discover that a system is consuming too much energy or water, we try to fix it as soon as possible. When we renovate or repair, we always take energy consumption into account.
All the electricity we use is green electricity, and in addition to this, we have installed solar panels on our roof. The solar power plant consists of 1,350 solar panels that produce approximately 420 MWh of electricity per year. In Åkersberga, the energy produced by the facility is used, among other things, to power elevators and escalators and to light public spaces.
Our goal is to reduce energy consumption by 10% by 2025 from the 2019 level. This means that by 2025, Åkersberga should not consume more electricity and heating than 80 kWh / m2 per year. In 2020, we consumed 52 kWh / m2 of electricity and 34 kWh / m2 of heat, which means we are on the right track, but still need to reduce energy consumption by around 7% by 2025.
Regarding water consumption, our goal is not to use more than 5 liters per visitor per year. In Åkersberga, water consumption was 2.9 l / visitor in 2020, so we are well positioned here. Our goal going forward is to maintain this level in the future.
